WHY
IS IT THAT PEOPLE WHEN CLOSE THEIR EYES TEND TO LOOSE BALANCE AND CANNOT WALK
STRAIGHT??
Brain registers everything. It’s a
storehouse of knowledge and vision. When the brain registers that a person wants to
walk in a straight line it makes people walk straightly. Brain uses this
reference point in order to maintain the movement of a person. If this
reference point is uncertain then the brain is unable to locate the exact direction
and the person is unable to walk straight.
The visual reference method is not the
only method to balance the direction or the movement of a person. The direction
or movement of a person can also be identified by a balance mechanism in our
inner ear also. It can also be judged by kinaesthetic sense which is a type of
sensation from muscles to kinaesthetic sense which is a type of sensation from
muscles and ligaments.
These two sensations i.e. balance
mechanism of the inner ear and kinaesthetic sense helps to maintain the movement of
our body. This type of movement is helpful in ice skating, acrobats etc. where
people can even walk with their eyes closed.
The balance of the human body is usually
maintained by three pillars. One pillar is the vestibular system which balances
inner ear. Human being cannot balance their body on one pillar. They need at least
two pillars to balance their body.
If there is any disorder in the inner ear or
proprioceptive system, then the person is unable to stand properly.
